Avian Care

Parrots

Parrots can live a long time and their needs can change as they age.  They also experience emotions deeply, which means veterinary visits must be approached with patience and care.  We focus on fear free practices to help parrots feel safe and comfortable with a lifetime of veterinary visits.

Song Birds

Songbirds make wonderfully gentle companions. Their small size means they require a soft approach and meticulous handling. Our team is trained to provide safe, delicate care for these tiny patients.

Poultry

Chickens, ducks, geese, quail, peafowl, and more – we love them all!  Whether they are part of your backyard flock or live as household companions, our veterinarians are experienced with both hobby and household poultry care.

Birds of Prey

From falconry birds to injured wildlife, raptors are powerful, unique animals. Our team is skilled in safe, calm handling techniques tailored to the needs of birds of prey.

FAQ

We recommend annual wellness exams for most birds, and twice‑yearly exams for seniors or birds with chronic health conditions. Birds instinctively hide illness, so regular checkups help us catch issues early.

Many birds thrive on high‑quality pellets supplemented with fresh vegetables, some fruits, and appropriate treats. Seed‑only diets are not recommended for most species. We can help tailor a diet to your bird’s specific needs.

This isn’t as straight forward as you may think!  Flight is important for your bird’s physical and emotional health, however in some cases the safety benefits may outweigh the benefits of flight.  We recommend discussing your bird’s unique situation with your veterinarian to make the best decision for them as an individual.

This is an important question and we will discuss your goals for your chicken at the appointment.  Some medications and treatments can make the eggs inedible, but we can work with you to determine the treatment that is the best fit for you and your chicken.

Feather picking is not normal and can have medical, behavioral, or environmental causes. We’ll work with you to investigate the underlying reason and create a treatment plan.
